| Experience Southern
Hospitality at its finest with Northwestern Lumber Associations Carolinas Mill Tour.
The annual mill tour is a great way to learn about the industry, travel to a different
part of the country and, most importantly, meet wonderful people and have fun.
Your tour begins in Charlotte, North Carolina and ends
in Charleston, South Carolina. Over the course of the week, you will visit a millwork
plant, a furniture manufacturer, two lumber yards that specialize in millwork for
historical preservation of homes in Charleston, an OSB manufacturer, a sawmill and a
harvesting site.
The Mill Tour isnt all work and no play! While
in North Carolina you will visit the Biltmore Estate, Americas largest home, built
by George Vanderbilt in the 1890s. The Biltmore offers a glimpse into a world of elegance
and grandeur. In Charleston, you will take a carriage tour of the city where you will
learn fascinating facts about the area during the time of the Civil War. In Charleston,
you will also visit Patriots Point and be in awe of the USS Yorktown (CV-10), the famous
Fighting Lady aircraft carrier of World War II, and a coast guard ship, a
destroyer, and a submarine, also from WWII. The schedule provides you with plenty of time
to explore the abundance of historic sites, elegant architecture and charming shops found
in North and South Carolina. And, be sure to bring your appetite because Southern food is
good and plentiful.
